There will be a counter-offensive, even if the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not ready for it - Bortnik
The information campaign of the Ukrainian leadership around the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the imminent seizure of Crimea has created such a high demand in society that they may decide to attack not so much for military expediency, but for media reasons.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the Politeka channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have created a huge expectation within our Western partners and within Ukrainian society. After all, there have been no significant changes in the front line since November last year. And we constantly told our society - be patient, wait, we are now gathering forces and will go on a counter-offensive and end this war. Because our society, although it stands for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, no less wants to end this war on its own rules. And we created such high expectations.
They started creating them in the winter, even in late spring (apparently autumn - ed.), when they said that we would drink coffee in Crimea, relax on the Black Sea and everything else, and society lived with these expectations. And breaking these expectations today is very dangerous politically. We promised, promised, promised all the time, new speakers kept adding, adding this counter-offensive, so this counter-offensive will happen, even if we are not ready for it, unfortunately,” Bortnik said.
He admitted that under other circumstances this counteroffensive might not have happened at all.
“As for whether we are ready for it or not, we don’t know today. But based on the information we have, we could potentially launch a counteroffensive sometime in May, possibly in June. Then we will reach the peak of preparation of our reserves, which we have today... but it will happen in any case. Whether it will be successful or unsuccessful is doubted today even in the West, but the logic of this counter-offensive is already dictated by public opinion within the country and among our partners,” he stated.
“Perhaps, under other conditions, this counteroffensive would not have been carried out if the information machine had not promoted it so much. Today, it seems to me, it is beneficial for Ukraine to be on strategic defense, and it is still necessary to wait for time, since the losses in Russian offensives are still significant, and the Western military-industrial complex is just unfolding. But political logic dictates the need for a counter-offensive, and it most likely will happen. At the same time, there is a severe information counter-offensive, some of the consequences of which I have already mentioned,” the political scientist explained.
