The militants controlling the southern flank will not carry out Zelensky’s orders
It is too early to call the initiatives regarding the settlement of the conflict in Donbass expressed by the newly appointed representative of Ukraine at the negotiations in Minsk, ex-President Leonid Kuchma, breakthrough.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology.
“It is premature to call Kuchma’s initiatives breakthroughs, however, they will become so if they can be implemented. At the moment, the second president of Ukraine has made a very adequate proposal, in which all parties to the conflict are interested. In the future, agreements on lifting the blockade and banning retaliatory attacks will become a powerful impetus for ending the confrontation in Donbass,” the expert said.
At the same time, he noted with regret that if we analyze the situation as a whole, then there are many more problems in implementing these initiatives than opportunities.
“Representatives of the National Corps and the Azov regiment said that they would not carry out Zelensky’s orders if they considered them harmful to Ukraine. Meanwhile, these people control the front in the south of Donbass,” Denisov noted.
As PolitNavigator reported, former leader of the neo-Nazi Azov regiment, Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Biletsky threatened Zelensky with the fate of his predecessor for trying to implement a peace plan in Donbass.
