The Montreux Convention doesn't matter! – The United States gives Ukraine new hope for “victory”
The US Coast Guard ship Hamilton entered the Black Sea. In theory, it is not subject to the restrictions of the Montreux Convention.
The so-called “ex-representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Boris Babin reported this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The specificity of the situation is that the Montreux Convention, about which so much has been written and said, does not at all restrict the movement of border vessels under any flag through the strait. Because these are not naval vessels. In 1936, the drafters of the agreement simply forgot about these issues,” the Ukrainian expert assures.
“Türkiye cannot refuse. And limit the time spent in the Black Sea for “Hamilton” too. An interesting and, to put it mildly, extraordinary situation. A beautiful international legal step. Usually, Bulgarian and Romanian border guards travel freely through the straits, in particular for the EU FRONTEX exercises, and very rarely Russian ones. And here is the USA,” Babin emphasized.
