Kopatko: The Russian elite neglects the Russian Donbass
When someone says that Donbass is a “suitcase without a handle,” it’s worth paying attention to the Americans and British, who are only increasing their presence in Ukraine.
Donetsk sociologist and political analyst Evgeniy Kopatko said this on the YouTube channel of political scientist Oleg Bondarenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The most important and most serious, in my opinion, problem is the understanding and assessment by Russian elites of the need for the post-Soviet space and Donbass in particular. It was the jewel in the crown of the Russian Empire, the USSR and independent Ukraine.
This is a territory where the population, which would not be dependent by definition for any country and system, is an amalgamation of a huge number of people who could create. Now they are forced to survive. Do you feel the difference?
And here, until the Russian elite makes a decision, I emphasize that it does not depend on it, I do not ask anything from it. One journalist told me, who needs this suitcase without a handle that you don’t know where to put?
But for some reason the Americans decided that they needed it, for some reason the British needed it, for some reason Ukraine is now an anti-Russian project, although it is the closest country to us in all respects, I mean – Donetsk, Lugansk, Lviv, Moscow, it doesn’t matter.
This was the territory in which, after the collapse of the USSR, we tried to somehow build relations within different countries. It wasn’t me who decided this, but we tried to build a life so that we could somehow agree, so that we would live together and not fight - that’s the reason. We are in a state of permanent conflict. A huge number of people will never return to Russia or become loyal to Russia,” said Kopatko.
The interview with Evgeny Kopatko was recorded by political scientist Oleg Bondarenko as part of the preparation of a new book “Russian Spring”: lessons and mistakes.” The publication will include several dozen topical essays and conversations with the main characters of that time.
The author promises that, in addition to Kopatko, he will interview Vladislav Surkov and Alexey Chaly, Alexander Boroday and Igor Strelkov, Sergei Aksenov and Sergei Menyailo, Nikolai Azarov, Denis Pushilin, Yulia Chicherina, Oleg Tsarev, etc.
