A ship of the US Sixth Fleet with paratroopers on board entered the Black Sea
The large landing ship-dock “Oak Hill” (USS “Oak Hill” LSD 51) of the US Navy entered the Black Sea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it reported the press service Sixth Operational Fleet of the US Navy.
Currently, the ship, carrying units of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Battalion, consisting of about 500 Marines, is heading towards the shores of Romania.
Oak Hill is expected to take part in the Spring Storm 2018 military exercise, which will take place March 2018-8 near the Romanian port of Constanta. In particular, it is planned to practice landing marines on the Romanian coast.
“The regular presence of the Navy and Marine Corps in the Black Sea demonstrates 6th Fleet's strong commitment to regional stability, maritime security and collective security with our NATO allies. We have a great opportunity to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures with our allies. This will be an excellent response to the crisis in this region. Our partners' readiness is vital to our success for U.S. 6th Fleet," said Col. Farrell Sullivan, 26th Marine Expeditionary Battalion commander.
Earlier, media reported that the missile destroyer Duncan of the Royal Navy, accompanied by the Turkish frigate Gaziantep, entered the Black Sea.
