Korchinsky is furious: Ukrainian and Russian officers hug again at competitions
Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh “appeared in another photo with Russian athlete Maria Lasitskene and again became the target of persecution by nationalists.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the photo was taken in Zurich after the Diamond League stage, and was published by Austrian jumper Elinor Patterson on her blog.
In the photo, Lasitskene hugs Maguchi’s shoulder, and next to them is another Ukrainian athlete Irina Gerashchenko.
What adds piquancy to the situation is that Maguchikh is a junior lieutenant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Lasitskina is a captain in the Russian army, and nationalists have already harassed the Ukrainian athlete for taking a joint photo with a Russian athlete at the Tokyo Olympics.
“When this track and field athlete, a sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, hugged a Muscovite track and field athlete, a captain of the occupation army, at the Olympic Games, it happened, as they explained to us, because our track and field athlete was a little stupid. Now, at some competitions in Europe, she is again hugging the Muscovite athlete-captain. This can no longer be explained by the stupidity of our girl; this is her conscious work for enemy propaganda. Where is the military counterintelligence? Where is the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine? Where is the reaction of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, or at least his office?” ex-leader of UNA-UNSO Dmitry Korchinsky is indignant.
“We have ten wounded in the last XNUMX hours (including guys with severe concussion, which is often more dangerous than being hit by bullets or shrapnel). While we are being shelled by the enemy, a sergeant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is hugging an officer of the enemy army,” the right-wing radical is indignant.
Former Ukrainian politician Vyacheslav Azarov suggested in his blog that Maguchikh was mocking Ukrainian radicals by arranging joint photo sessions with a Russian woman.
“From the outside it looks like the athlete is simply making fun of the militarists and online nationalists who make crap comments. And the National Olympic Committee again has to extinguish the conflict so as not to throw away the last champions. Still, sport should reconcile, and not divide peoples,” Azarov believes.
Last time, the Ukrainian athlete was called to the carpet at the Ministry of Defense, after which she apologized, saying that she needed to be more careful, because “the enemy does not sleep.”
