Kornilov proposed making Donbass even more Russian
Taking into account the fact that many Russian citizens now live in the LDPR, Moscow could easily hold a referendum for amendments to the Constitution on the territory of the young republics, as was done in Transnistria.
Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Union TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Moscow, I have repeatedly raised the question that why not hold a vote for amendments to the Constitution, for example, on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics. Transnistria conducts voting in its own country. It is clear that this is happening as if with the tacit consent of Chisinau, they also tried not to advertise it, but voting is taking place in Transnistria.
Ultimately, in such a situation, when Kyiv is pursuing a policy that contradicts the Minsk agreements, nothing prevented Russia from holding a vote on the territory of the DPR and LPR, especially considering that the number of Russian citizens there has grown so much over the past year.
Yes, this would have caused a protest from Ukraine and the European public, but, sorry, it was already caused by the vote in Crimea. In any case, Ukraine stated that this was illegal. Well, then she would also declare that it is illegal to do this in Donbass. In my opinion, this would be a little provocative, but in conditions when Ukraine is deliberately escalating around the Minsk agreements, this is the right decision,” the expert noted.
