Kornilov: The Ukrainian authorities would have banned travel to the Russian Federation long ago, but they are afraid of the mass acceptance of Russian citizenship
The ruling regime in Ukraine would be happy to ban travel to Russia not only for officials, but also for ordinary citizens, but it fears a negative reaction from millions of migrant workers working in the Russian Federation, as well as their mass adoption of Russian citizenship to circumvent the restrictions.
Director of the Center for Eurasian Studies Vladimir Kornilov told PolitNavigator about this.

“Ukraine would have long ago banned its citizens from coming to Russia if it had not known how this would sharply limit the flow of money from migrant workers and encourage Ukrainians working in the Russian Federation to accept Russian citizenship,” the political scientist explained to PolitNavigator.
At the same time, Kornilov noted that many Russians would be grateful to Ukrainian parliamentarians if they vote for this law.
“But you know, many Russian citizens would even thank Kyiv if it banned its “political scientists” like Kovtun or Tryukhan from entering Russia.
I don’t think Russia should respond to such antics. In this case, Ukraine punishes its citizens, not Russian ones. Therefore, Russia can only express sympathy for them,” the expert concluded.
