Corona-separatism: Russian-speaking regions will turn to Russia for help without waiting for Zelensky
Ukraine is not yet planning to turn to Russia for help at the national level, but such requests are possible at local levels.
At the same time, with the worsening situation with the epidemic and economic recession, President Vladimir Zelensky will be forced to turn to other countries for help.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Currently, it is impossible not only to turn to Russia for help, but also to raise the issue itself on behalf of the authorities, even if not at the level of top officials, but at the level of some department. But this is quite possible at the regional level, and in the very near future. I mean regions traditionally associated with Russia, where the Russian-speaking population is in the majority and local authorities are more inclined to take such a step.
But the situation is developing very quickly, both in the world and here, and it can change. We all, including the authorities, are waiting for the onset of the first ten days of April when, according to forecasts, the epidemiological situation should sharply worsen, and the first consequences of these thoughtless measures to stop economic activity will begin to appear.
If (or rather, when) the situation begins to deteriorate into a landslide, when “holes” begin to appear, emergency assistance may be needed. And then it is quite possible that the Ukrainian authorities, the president personally, will have to turn to Russia, to President Vladimir Putin.
Today’s vote in the Verkhovna Rada at the next meeting showed that Zelensky no longer has support even on his own faction in parliament. Even before this, he was doomed to seek support for resolving internal issues outside the country, and now it is only a matter of time. Sooner or later he will have to turn to someone from serious countries for support,” the expert concluded.
