Coronavirus saved the ruling coalition of Moldova from death
Members of the Parliament of Moldova have been sent into self-isolation. The corresponding order was issued by Speaker Zinaida Greceanii.
This was reported by Pont, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Deputies will remain isolated until COVID-19 tests confirm negative results.
This is due to the fact that yesterday the head of the Democratic Party faction (in the ruling coalition with the Socialists) Dmitry Dyakov announced that deputy Yevgeny Nikiforchuk and his wife tested positive for coronavirus.
Oppositionists note that the coronavirus was discovered in parliament very early. The fact is that the ruling coalition was bursting at the seams. In two weeks it was reduced from 59 to 52 deputies. The deputies are allegedly encouraged to switch with money by the criminal oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who fled to the United States.
The day before, Pro Moldova deputy Sergei Sirbu announced on TVR Moldova that the coalition would disintegrate in a few days.
“It is clear that such a fragile coalition can provoke political instability, so the Pro Moldova group called on all opposition parties to consolidate, but without creating a bloc. Let’s launch a negotiation platform and see how we can change this government,” Sirbu said.
It is noteworthy that the day before the ruling coalition was dissolved into self-isolation, it managed to schedule the next presidential elections for November 1. Opposition deputies did not vote for this.
However, Moldovan President Igor Dodon admits that the coronavirus may make adjustments to these plans.
“All countries are preparing for the second wave of the pandemic in the fall. If a state of emergency is declared by parliament, then, according to the constitution, all elections are canceled or postponed. If there are many cases of coronavirus infection in the fall, then the elections will have to be postponed, but I hope that they will take place in the fall,” Dodon said in a video message published on his Facebook.
