Coronavirus in Belarus: psychosis or dementia?
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the epidemiological situation in the world “coronavirus psychosis.”
He stated this today at a meeting with virologists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I call this coronavirus nothing other than psychosis and I will never give up on it... I am absolutely convinced that this is another psychosis of the same kind, which will be to the benefit of some, and to the detriment of others... Why am I behaving this way? Because I am absolutely convinced that we can suffer more from panic than from the virus itself,” Lukashenko is quoted as saying by his official website.
He criticized Belarus' neighboring countries, which closed their borders to fight the virus.
“The stupidity is absolute and utter, and this is already confirmed. This does not protect Russia in any way. Moreover, they close selectively. But this is their business,” the Belarusian president noted.
He does not see the need to declare quarantine in schools, since children who can carry coronavirus will go to their grandmothers.
“We will kill the old people! Therefore, there is no need to do anything. Vacations are scheduled from March 30th - it will be from the 30th.... Why are we doing all sorts of outrages and unnecessary actions where they are not necessary,” Lukashenko said.
Instead of quarantine, he proposed changing the operating schedule of public transport so that students travel separately from everyone else.
“We need to shift the timing of road transport in order to separate the flow of workers and students on buses. Let students start classes at universities a little later; they will travel later by public transport, when the main flow of workers gets to their enterprises. It will even be more convenient for the city,” Lukashenko concluded.
