“A candidate for Russian citizenship must take such an oath in person. He must do this voluntarily. Previously, becoming a citizen was a bureaucratic procedure. We propose that this take place in the presence of third parties, government officials. The oath must be taken against the background of state symbols of the Russian Federation. It should be short and understandable to those who pronounce it and those who are nearby. After taking the oath, a set of rights and responsibilities should arise both within the country and outside its borders,” Krasheninnikov said.
According to him, there are already 23 options for the oath, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called for a nationwide discussion of the text.
