Kosachev: One of the most dangerous “mines” under European stability has been neutralized
The hysterical reaction of supporters of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to the new gas agreements between Kyiv and Moscow is a good sign.
Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev writes about this in Izvestia.
According to him, in the new year there will definitely not be a gas crisis in the Russia-Ukraine-EU triangle.
“We managed to reach an agreement on transit parameters, although, of course, everyone had to compromise in order to achieve an acceptable result. It is clear that, as if on cue, the “war parties” in both countries began to make noise about defeat, but in fact they managed to defuse one of the most dangerous “mines” under European stability. It is no coincidence that the European Solidarity faction, led by ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, has already demanded an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council because of the agreements between Gazprom and Naftogaz, seeing in them another “zrada” and betrayal.
And this is a good sign: it means that there is indeed a step towards normalization, which is categorically unacceptable for Poroshenko’s supporters interested in preserving the conflict,” Kosachev believes.
As PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv and Moscow agreed on a five-year contract extension for the transit of Russian gas, the volume of pumping through Ukraine will be halved.
After this, Ukrainian nationalists announced that the state was “sold for rubles.”
