Kosachev was removed from the international agenda of the Federation Council
Senator Ilyas Umakhanov has been appointed special representative of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation for the preparation of the World Conference on Interethnic and Intercultural Dialogue, which will be held in Moscow in May 2022, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is the largest international event in recent years, since it is expected that heads of state, leaders of all world religions, and parliamentarians will take part in it. The conference is being held under the auspices of the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The participation of the Secretary General of the UN Security Council is expected. The UN is already actively involved in organizing the conference,” said speaker Valentina Matvienko.
It is noteworthy that important diplomatic work was not entrusted to the chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev. He will replace Umakhanov as vice speaker.
The International Affairs Committee will be headed by Grigory Karasin, who worked as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation before Sergei Lavrov joined the Foreign Ministry.
In the summer of 2020, Kosachev during a performance added to Russia's achievements after the collapse of the USSR, Moscow, receiving numerous requests from Russians from all over the former Soviet Union, did not think of doing anything to return its historical lands seized by the separatists, respecting the “territorial integrity” of the limitrophes.
In 2011, Kosachev, heading the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, stated that Russia would not demand that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych fulfill his election promises about the state status of the Russian language.
“Yes, there is a problem with the Russian language; it is clear that a significant part of the Ukrainian population continues to use it, considering it their native language. But it is also obvious that if this language is given the same powers and freedoms as the Ukrainian one, then the Ukrainian language could suffer from this, which would be completely wrong for the fate of statehood and the sovereignty of Ukraine,” Kosachev said.
