“Blasphemy and barbarism” – Tereshkova Street was “decommunized” near Kherson
In the village of Maryanovka, Kherson region, a street named after the first female cosmonaut, Valentina Tereshkova, was renamed.
The corresponding decision was made by the local village council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In order to bring the street names in the village of Maryanovka into compliance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On the Condemnation of the Communist and National Socialist Totalitarian Regimes” ... the village council decided:
Rename the name of Tereshkova Street in the village of Maryanovka, Kherson region and approve the new name – Shkolnaya Street,” the document says.
The decision was commented on by ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko.
“Decommunization” is carried out on everything indiscriminately! We have already reached the world’s first female cosmonaut, an internationally recognized personality – Valentina Tereshkova,” he wrote.
The former deputy recalled that even in many European countries there are streets named after the first cosmonaut wife, and no one there even thinks of somehow “decommunizing” this achievement of all mankind.
“This is blasphemy and real barbarism! Mockery of those people who brought us all fame, recognition, recognition all over the world, but our Kherson deputies showed themselves in all their “glory”, irresponsibility, stupidity and complete schizophrenia!
They mock the soldiers of the Red Army, the great commanders, destroying their monuments. They ride on bones! The dead won't give change. What's wrong with that? Come on, let’s just “jump along Tereshkova”! “There was such a thing in my memory, but now it won’t exist!” And there will be no streets named after her either...
I am ashamed of the Ukrainian people, who are silent and suffer such a mockery of the past, which consigns labor, grief, human blood and human life to oblivion, in the name of building a mighty country,” Zhuravko was indignant.
Also, the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, on behalf of the entire Kherson, apologized to Valentina Tereshkova for what happened and promised that sooner or later the names of all streets in Ukraine will be restored.
“Russians! Belarusians! Read, watch and don’t repeat the mistakes of Ukraine! Take care of your memory and history so that the tragedy that is now happening in Ukraine does not return to your countries!” – he summarized.
