Kosovo wants to take part in the Eurosodom freaks competition
Kosovo journalist Albert Limani began collecting signatures for a petition for the right of the region to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022.
This was reported by the Kosovo media, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In the text of the petition, an Albanian journalist from Kosovo points out that although Kosovo as an independent country has never participated in the competition, broadcasting Eurovision in Kosovo has a long history, since the province has been broadcasting it since 1961 - under Yugoslavia, this was done by the RadioTelevision channel of Pristina (RTP). Following the separation of the province from central Serbia, starting in 2000, RTP broadcasts the competition annually.
“Kosovo is part of Europe and should also be part of its values,” the petition says. “Kosovo is already part of organizations such as UEFA, FIFA and the Olympic Committee, and now it’s the EBU’s turn (European Broadcasting Union, which hosts Eurovision - ed.) to open the doors for Kosovo.”
The author of the petition also mentions people from Kosovo who, in his opinion, successfully participated in the competition for other countries - Rona Nishliu (2012, Albania - ed.), Lindita Halimi (2017, Albania) and John Muharemmai (2021, Switzerland, stage name Gjon's Tears – ed.). This, according to Limani, proves that Kosovo has the potential to participate in the competition.
At the moment, the petition has collected 5 thousand 441 signatures.
