Europe has created its own Frankenstein out of Kosovo
The Serbian authorities are ready for certain compromises on Kosovo, whose self-proclaimed authorities, on the contrary, are sabotaging any peace initiatives.
The director of the Progressive Policy Foundation, Balkanist Oleg Bondarenko, told Izvestia about this, assessing the statement of Kosovo leader Hashim Thaci, who recently announced that Pristina does not intend to fulfill its obligations to create the Community of Serbian Municipalities, which is the basis of the Brussels Agreements signed in 2013 between Belgrade and Pristina through the mediation of the European Union.
“Now we are seeing a stalemate. Belgrade demonstrates its readiness to negotiate and make certain concessions in order to resolve the Kosovo issue, however, Pristina does its best to sabotage any initiatives. Europe has created its own Frankenstein in Kosovo, which it cannot control. Kosovars today are subordinate only to the United States, despite the fact that Germany remains the main investor in the economy of the self-proclaimed republic,” the expert said.
According to him, the United States is not interested in resolving the situation, and therefore Washington does not give any orders to its Kosovo proxies, which is why negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, which were supposed to be held in Paris through the mediation of the French president, were postponed indefinitely.
“Kosovo is a headache for the European Union. After all, the unrecognized republic remains a stronghold of the drug mafia and a place where trafficking in people and human organs flourishes,” concluded Oleg Bondarenko.
