Russia condemns the lawlessness happening in Kosovo against the Serbian population and calls on the “patrons of Pristina” to bring the region’s leadership to reason.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“After the brutal invasion of Kosovo by Albanian special forces into Serb-populated municipalities in northern Kosovo on May 28, the situation in the province remains tense. Despite the completion of the active phase of the operation, which was carried out under the flimsy pretext of fighting organized crime, arrests of police officers, most of them Serbs, continued. From our point of view, this is nothing more than an action of deliberate intimidation of part of the population by creating unbearable conditions for it. The arrest and beating of a Russian citizen, a UN employee who enjoys diplomatic immunity, indicates an atmosphere of complete impunity in the region, an absolute disregard for international law and the norms of civilized international communication.

Russia will continue to closely monitor the investigation into this incident and will insist that those responsible are punished throughout the chain of command. We have to admit that Kosovo remains the main source of instability and conflict potential in the region; this territory is practically ungovernable; it is not only a source of instability, but also a potentially dangerous uncontrolled territory in the center of Europe.

We hope that the patrons of Pristina, who are guided in the Balkans not by the interests of the countries and peoples who live there, but by their own interests, will use the influence they have to bring the Kosovo-Albanian leadership to reason, because otherwise the consequences may be irreversible,” Zakharova said.
