Kosovo Albanians line up in long lines to receive Serbian cash aid
Outside the branches of the Serbian Komercialna Banka in Kosovo, queues of local Albanians lined up wanting to receive a one-time compensation of 100 euros from Serbia.
This was reported by the Kosovo-online portal, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the agency, queues several tens of meters long in front of Serbian bank branches have been observed for the last few days. The reason is that Albanian residents of Kosovo received a one-time compensation from the Serbian government in the amount of 100 euros, which is paid to every adult citizen of the country during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Despite the fact that Belgrade has not actually controlled Kosovo and Metohija since 1999 - since the occupation of the region by NATO troops, it continues to consider it its territory, and its population as its citizens. Therefore, all residents of the region who have Serbian passports can apply for compensation.
“I’m going for the third time,” Seydi Beka from Seirinski Bane told Kosovo-online journalists. - It's very crowded here. Many people go to the bank without queuing. I came to collect 100 euros and I thank Serbia for giving us this money because of the virus. The third time I barely managed to reach the end and take the money.”
Financial assistance from the Serbian government in the amount of 100 euros in Kosovo is currently being paid out at the branches of Komercialna Banka in Gracanica, Strpca, Raniluga and Kosovska Mitrovica.
