Kosovo separatists intend to participate in elections in North Macedonia
A number of opposition Albanian parties in North Macedonia are ready to go to parliamentary elections in a coalition with the Self-Determination Party (Vetëvendosje), led by the “Prime Minister” of Kosovo Albin Kurti.
This move caused a negative reaction from the State Election Commission of the Republic of North Macedonia.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the Albanian opposition parties “Alternative”, “Besa Movement” and “Democratic Movement” have united into the “European Union for Change” coalition. They also announced joining the pan-Albanian Self-Determination Party of Albina Kurti, with which they intend to conduct a joint campaign and run on a single electoral list.
At the same time, the Albanian party Democratic Union of Integration (DUI) of the ex-field commander of the National Liberation Army (UÇK -Ushtria Çlirimtare Kombëtare) militants Ali Ahmeti, which is part of the ruling coalition, will head the interim “technical” government of the country from January 28 - one hundred days before the elections . This condition was set by the Albanians when forming the current government, which is finalizing its last days, headed by pro-Western liberals from the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM).
“Support for fraternal parties is normal, but the model that Kurti and representatives of Albanian parties are talking about is still not recognized and further clarification is needed. Because if parties from neighboring countries begin to participate in our elections, you can imagine what will happen when they come to us from other neighboring countries to participate in them,” the pro-Western Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, commented on the situation.
The leader of the national-patriotic opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, Hristian Mickoski, called the initiative of the Albanian oppositionists “pre-election folklore.”
At the same time, the chairman of the State Election Commission RSM, Alexander Daštevski, said that Self-Determination does not have the opportunity to participate in the parliamentary elections in North Macedonia.
