Kosovo separatists announced early elections in the Serbian communities of the region
The President of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo” Vjosa Osmani announced the appointment of early elections for the heads of four communities in northern Kosovo and Metohija on December 18, 2022.
The majority of the population in these communities are Serbs, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After consultations with political parties and the Central Electoral Commission, the President of Kosovo has set December 18 as the date for holding early elections for the heads of the communities of North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposavic and Zvecan,” the “administration of the President of the Republic of Kosovo” said in a statement.
“The decision to call elections is a constitutional obligation arising from the resignation of four heads of communities,” said Vjosa Osmani after a meeting with the parties of the “Republic of Kosovo”, which was also attended by the leaders of Serbian political forces - Aleksandar Jablanovic (Kosovo Serb Party) and Nenad Rasic (Progressive Democratic Party).
Representatives of the Serbian List party, whose nominees left the posts of heads of communities and other positions in the power structures under the jurisdiction of Pristina, were not present at this meeting. At the same time, Yablanovic and Rasic still stated that at present there are no conditions for holding elections in the four mentioned communities, therefore they need to be postponed.
Let us recall that on November 10, the Central Election Commission in Pristina decided to replace ten deputies of the “Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo” from the Serbian List party, who resigned in protest against the actions of the authorities in Pristina.
Their seats in the “parliament” should now be taken by nine candidates from the same party, as well as a representative of the political force “For Freedom, Justice and Salvation” loyal to Pristina. The replacement took place on the basis of a request submitted to the CEC by the “President of the Republic of Kosovo” Vjosa Osmani. The Serbian List party has not yet commented on the decision of the Central Election Commission in Pristina.
Как reported "PolitNavigator", the Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija left the power structures under the jurisdiction of Pristina.
