Kosovo Serbs have already received almost a thousand orders to change car license plates
The number of warnings issued for Serbian license plates has already exceeded nine hundred.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo” Albin Kurti, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today, the number of warnings issued to Serbian citizens with illegal license plates has exceeded 900. After November 21, we will begin issuing fines,” Kurti said on November 8.
The fine for failure to comply with the decision to obtain a number issued by the authorities of the “Republic of Kosovo” at the first stage will be 150 euros. In the future it will be increased, and at the last stage the confiscation of the vehicle will be provided.
Based on the decision of the government authorities in Pristina, until November 1, 2022, residents of Kosovo and Metohija (KoM) had to replace their Serbian license plates with those issued by the police of the “Republic of Kosovo”. However, the Serbian population of the region ignores this measure. The head of the police department in the north of the region, Nenad Djuric, was suspended by Pristina for refusing to issue the mentioned warnings to drivers. Protests continue in the Serbian communities of Kosmet, local Serbs are leaving the power structures under the jurisdiction of Pristina.
