Kosovo passport turned out to be worse than Eritrean one
The passport of unrecognized Kosovo has the lowest index in the world.
Emerging Europe writes about this, a ProlitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Its holders can travel to only 40 countries without visas, which is less than Eritreans. Although the European Union has repeatedly stated that non-recognition by its member states should not deprive Kosovo residents of the opportunity to travel visa-free to the bloc, such freedom of movement has not yet been achieved,” the article says.
The author connects this circumstance with the success of the Serbian campaign to revoke recognition of Kosovo among UN member countries.
“It has been almost two years since the last UN member state (Barbados, in February 2018) recognized Kosovo as an independent country. During this time, 13 countries that had previously recognized the former Serbian province withdrew their recognition... Although the states that have withdrawn their recognition are mostly small countries with little global influence, the numbers matter,” the article says.
At the same time, the author admits, there are no facts that Serbia bought withdrawal decisions.
“Kosovo is still not a member of the UN, and Serbia's goal appears to be to prevent it from joining. Negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo to normalize relations between the two countries have been at a deadlock for more than a year,” the author summarizes.
