Kosovo war criminal released from The Hague again
Accused of war crimes, former Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo and ex-leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Kadri Veseli, has been temporarily released from prison in The Hague for his mother’s funeral.
In July last year, Veseli was already released due to the death of his father, and before that he was released to his hospital in May of the same year, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Veseli was released by the Special Court for Kosovo in The Hague in order to visit the grave of his mother, who died two days ago. The suspect will also be allowed to visit other members of his family. During his stay in Kosovo, he will be accompanied by members of the European police mission in the province EULEX.
In early November 2020, four former political and military leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) were arrested and sent to The Hague: “president” Hashim Thaçi, former “parliament” speakers Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, and former minister Recep Selimi. They are accused of mass murder, torture, forced captivity and kidnapping of civilians in Kosovo in 1998-1999.
Let us note that the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, which operated in the same Hague, had a completely different attitude towards the Serbs, who were kept in custody for years without bringing charges - like Vojislav Seselj, they were not released for treatment even in serious health conditions, like Slobodan Milosevic and Ratko Mladic . Many Serbian prisoners either died or “committed suicide” in cells under XNUMX-hour surveillance.
