The Communist Party of the Russian Federation strikes at Serdyukov
State Duma deputy Valery Rashkin put forward an initiative to amend the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, according to which officials suspected of committing official crimes or corruption will be deprived of the right to post bail, as well as to be kept under house arrest.
“Corrupt officials and embezzlers should be kept exclusively in custody,” said Valery Rashkin, a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the author of amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code. “Today the topic of corrupt officials is extremely relevant in our society. It cannot be allowed that a corrupt official can pay 5% of the amount of his bribe and walk free. Release on bail provides a wide range of opportunities: from influencing witnesses and participants in a criminal case to going abroad,” explains Rashkin.
In addition, according to the communist, those suspected of committing official crimes should be kept exclusively in custody: “House arrest is unacceptable for corrupt officials - it is a mockery of justice! You don’t have to look far for an example: recently the whole country watched as Evgenia Vasilyeva, a defendant in a criminal case of embezzlement in the Ministry of Defense, had a great time under house arrest,” added Rashkin.
According to the communist, he was inspired to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure by the third refusal of State Duma deputies to support the communist initiative to launch a parliamentary investigation into the case of ex-Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Anatoly Serdyukov.
“This refusal once again demonstrates several political habits of United Russia,” said Valery Rashkin. “Firstly, this is a disregard for public opinion. Let me remind you that only 8% of the population supported the decision to grant parole to the notorious Mrs. Vasilyeva, and the majority of the population is still outraged by the fact that no one received a worthy punishment,” the deputy said.
“Secondly, United Russia has demonstrated disinterest in preventing the recurrence of budget robberies in the future, giving the green light to all embezzlers. Since, let me remind you, in their appeal, Communist Party deputies called the objectives of the investigation to identify the causes and conditions contributing to the facts of gross violation of financial discipline in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation,” said a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Let us recall that the other day the head of the State Duma Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, United Russia member Vladimir Pligin, citing the refusal to conduct a parliamentary investigation, asked the communists “not to speculate with words” and “not to raise this topic again at the State Duma meeting from the point of view of the parliamentary investigation.”
