“We brought this day closer as best we could,” Yenin wrote on Facebook.
Let us remind you that a scandal erupted in the Italian press, caused precisely by Ukraine’s delay in returning the paintings. Italian journalists directly accused President Petro Poroshenko of lying, what “PolitNavigator” wrote about.
“Repeated requests and visits by Italian officials did not yield any results. Poroshenko was even given the status of an honorary citizen of the city of Verona in advance, just for the promise to return the masterpieces. It is now the end of November, however, things are still there. Official Kyiv claims that the paintings, whose value exceeds twenty million dollars, are exhibited in the Kiev Khanenko Museum. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General throws up his hands, citing the fact that this is a political, not a criminal issue,” lamented in November of this year Italian edition of Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso.
