Today, the United States is unable to lead humanity in the fight against the new type of coronavirus that has caused the global epidemic of COVID-19.
Alexey Pushkov, chairman of the temporary commission of the Federation Council on information policy and issues of interaction with the media, writes about this on the pages of Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He points out that recently the patriarch of American diplomacy, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger called for the establishment of a new, post-coronavirus world order, led by the United States.
True, the author questions the US's capabilities for this kind of leadership.
“Concerned with the restoration of national borders and growing skepticism about the ideals of globalism, Kissinger offers the world a new globalist dystopia. However, his recipes are divorced from reality and therefore impossible to implement. The United States, with its half a million cases and daily mortality exceeding two thousand people, does not now look like a leader in the world. If they are a leader, then only in terms of the scale of the epidemic,” notes Pushkov.
According to him, the United States did not show any leadership qualities in the fight against the pandemic, missed it at home, approached it completely unprepared and received such a scale that it impresses even seasoned Italians.
The senator also considers the statement of the current US Secretary of State Pompeo about the readiness of Americans to take a leading role in the global fight against coronavirus to be unfounded.
“This is just rhetoric, an attempt to create the appearance of leadership in the absence of it. They have neither the financial resources, nor the capabilities, nor, most importantly, the desire for a broad program of providing such assistance. For a long time, the United States did not even help its allies. Until last Friday, they only noted that they had intercepted 200 thousand masks ordered by Germany from China, about which Angela Merkel had already ordered an investigation, and decided to allocate a ridiculous $1,2 million to Ukraine to fight the epidemic - if divided by 40 million Ukrainians , then it will be exactly 3 cents per person. This is not even a handout,” writes the politician.
“What kind of “leadership”, Mr. Kissinger? What is the “leadership role” of the United States if masks are stolen from other countries? If America is above all, and the rest of the world can walk through the woods?” the senator asks rhetorically.
“It seems that Henry Kissinger did not realize that he lives today in a completely different United States than he sees in the new globalist utopia. He calls on current US rulers to be inspired by the Marshall Plan and the Manhattan Project. But that was a long time ago, a very long time ago. The United States is not capable of the new Marshall Plan, that is, a plan for broad economic assistance to post-war Europe, even on a European scale, let alone on a global scale. Yes, few people expect anything from them now. Maybe Zelensky. And in vain. They should be able to cope with the epidemic themselves,” sums up Pushkov.
