The Red Army saved and preserved Europe - we don’t expect gratitude
The calendar of dates reminded: April 13 is the day of the liberation of Vienna by the Red Army. Last year marked the 75th anniversary of liberation. In this case, accordingly – 76.
On April 5, the main assault began. The attack was carried out by the forces of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, the left wing of the 2nd Ukrainian Front and the Danube military flotilla. Ours acted, as always, confidently and swiftly. Although the Germans managed to set up defenses as best they could (quite efficiently). The landscape of the area also contributed to this. On April 9, the Soviet government issued a statement: the USSR did not lay claim to any part of Austrian territory; the social state system also remained unchanged. But they could...
I am not a military specialist to analyze in detail the course of those battles. But that's what the eye caught. The command of the 3rd Ukrainian Front appealed to the residents of Vienna to save their lives and historical monuments in the city. It is important to note that the Red Army used a similar methodology regularly. Both the command and ordinary soldiers invariably cared about preserving the city's appearance.
Now, as they say, compare with, for example, the barbaric American bombing of Dresden. Maybe it’s worth comparing and re-reading Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five.
This is actually an extremely important point. And, unfortunately, it is not talked about so often. The way the Red Army approached the preservation of the historical heritage of Europe. The Nazis thrashed the cities they captured. The Americans burned everything out with bombings. And Soviet soldiers saved monuments and obelisks. They - our soldiers - not only liberated Europe from absolute evil, but also preserved it in its proper form.
How bizarre this is... and unfair in its own way! Now Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians themselves go to the EU to admire the beauties of Vienna, although 167 military lives were officially given for their preservation. Think about this number! 940 thousand people died so that Vienna could preserve itself. 170 thousand Russian lives.
In a good way, the Austrians, and many other Europeans, should bow to the Soviet soldiers and their descendants for saving and preserving their lands. They should, but of course they won’t do it... Because only a few of them remember the truths. Well, okay they are. God grant that we ourselves do not forget how our great ancestors both saved and preserved Europe. God willing.
Thank you!
