“You know, I’m not a populist and it’s not just that I should call on us to recognize. This is a serious question. Even an appeal is already a serious step. Therefore, I will first discuss all these serious issues and then declare them. If the situation develops, then, of course, yes,” Krasnoselsky said.

He recalled that his predecessors as president of Transnistria had already turned to Russia with a request for recognition, but it was not forthcoming.

“A referendum was held in 2006, and 97% of citizens in the referendum were in favor of joining the Russian Federation. But this, again, is a political component. You have to be prepared for recognition. Now we are ready to admit: we are a state with all branches of government, with our own currency, with our own economy, with our own finances. But the question of recognition is a technical question. The question, in principle, is not about us,” Krasnoselsky said.

Earlier, Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin told PolitNavigator that Russia is refraining from recognizing Transnistria in order to prevent the merger of Moldova with Romania.

Krasnoselsky repeatedly recalled that the PMR was formed only after in June 1990 the Moldovan parliament adopted a declaration of withdrawal from the USSR and invalidation of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

Krasnoselsky pointed out that the Moldavian SSR was created on the basis of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact by annexing right-bank Moldova to the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. In these nuances, he sees the basis for international recognition of Pridnestrovie.
