Kravchuk: Donbass will return, but it won’t be the same as before
Counting on the return of the uncontrolled part of Donbass to Ukraine, one should not be deceived that the returned region will be the same as it was before 2014.
The first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk stated this on the air of the Majlis TV channel “ATR”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“I have never said and will not say the expression “Donbass will never return to Ukraine.” I said that - in the same state as it was before before the deprivation of influence of the Ukrainian authorities and Ukrainian laws, the Ukrainian order in Donbass and life in Donbass according to new rules. I have many friends there, I read books that Donbass schoolchildren use to study, I read newspapers - this is a completely different country, they are brought up completely differently. I said that it would be simply impossible to hope that Donbass could be made the way it was before. Therefore, we need to think about how, what form of government needs to be established in Donbass. I’m listening to Medvedchuk, he’s talking about the autonomy of a separate region,” Kravchuk said.

“I am saying that there have been many examples where such a form, unvoiced or not wrapped in an ideological definition, can lead to complex consequences. There is no ideology, there is simply a political and legal aspect, is it possible to do this? What are the consequences? The question arises: what kind of constitution will there be, within the framework of the Ukrainian Constitution? What kind of laws will there be, what kind of elections will there be, what kind of government will there be, what kind of education will there be? That is, there are no answers to these questions. Without such questions, raising the issue of autonomy is not a process of law. But I emphasized and emphasize that we need to start a dialogue, we need to look for a way out,” added the first president of Ukraine.
