Kravchuk: The Kremlin has been preparing the seizure of Crimea since 1954
The Kremlin's great-power chauvinists have been preparing to take Crimea from Ukraine since 1954 - from the very moment the peninsula was transferred to the Ukrainian SSR by decision of Secretary General Nikita Khrushchev.
This conclusion can be drawn from today’s speech by ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk at a press conference in Kyiv.

“When we had no power, the Kremlin took advantage of the anarchy - and it has been preparing for annexation for a long time. Maybe from day one. At least since 1954. And when independence relations between Ukraine and Russia were formed, Russia included the return of Crimea in its plans. I know this,” said Leonid Kravchuk.
“I want to be realistic. The return of Crimea may happen for some reasons that we do not yet know, but if we are guided by political logic, then it may not be so fast. 10-15-20 years, I don't know. But sooner or later Crimea will return, because in the history of mankind there have always been relations between countries that changed territorial integrity and borders, and, in the end, everything returned to its place, based on international law,” Kravchuk shared his thoughts .
Let us recall that, according to Russian historians, the transfer of Crimea in 1954 from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR occurred in violation of the law, without taking into account the opinions of the inhabitants of the peninsula.
