Kravchuk admitted that Putin will not give up
Ukraine must agree to autonomy for Donbass to end the war.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk in an interview with the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe.
According to him, in order to achieve peace in Donbass, it is necessary to enter into direct dialogue with Russia.
“As long as there is no dialogue, it is very difficult to talk about ending the war and establishing peace, because the war is going on in Ukraine and Russia is carrying out the aggression,” Kravchuk asserts. – Until she stops, it’s very difficult to say that anyone can stop her, other than an agreement with Ukraine. No one will do this instead of Ukraine.”
He is also convinced that Russia does not need a war in Donbass.
“The main thing is to find a scheme so that Putin doesn’t feel like he’s given up. These people, brought up in the KGB and intelligence networks, have such a character. Since he has this, our proposal to start a dialogue could find a response in him. We don’t say what kind of dialogue. If they agree, we immediately say: the agenda is such and such, we are discussing issues of ending the war. Let's look for ways. We do not accept any conditions or prerequisites,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
He believes that the issue of Donbass autonomy can be discussed
“Not a federal structure, but autonomy,” the former head of the Ukrainian state clarified. – Crimea was an autonomy? Was. Do we have experience? Eat. So, we can already discuss this.”
At the same time, he stipulates that he does not have a ready-made scheme, adding that nevertheless “something needs to be done”
“There is no other way. And we need to stop this clumsy policy - on the one hand, we are away from Russia, goodbye, unwashed Russia, and so on, and at the same time we are trading with Russia. We are increasing trade and continuing diplomatic relations. People are not so primitive - people know how to think and have changed over the years. They not only think, but also analyze and see where there is falsehood and where there is a sincere, reasonable proposal,” Kravchuk concluded.
