Kravchuk: “The situation is changing in our favor. Let's defeat the Russian Federation without nuclear weapons"
Ukraine can become a nuclear power, but it will be very expensive and will not make it stronger.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, Leonid Kravchuk, stated this on air on the Pershiy TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You need status, but how to achieve it? This is not only a problem for Ukraine. The emergence of a new nuclear power in the world means a change in the balance of forces, including in Europe and in the world. You know how the world community reacts to the actions of one or another state that has nuclear weapons. Therefore, we need to take a comprehensive approach.
First, do we have the technical capabilities to have nuclear weapons? Of course there is - Ukraine is a great state, it has great potential, serious modern science. That is, if we gather our strength, we can prepare a nuclear power, Ukraine. How much will it cost Ukraine now? I think at least 80 billion dollars.
Finally, is achieving nuclear status really the solution? Although nuclear weapons are weapons of deterrence, in Europe only a madman would use them. People think that if we have nuclear weapons, we will become much stronger than we are now. Now we have a fairly strong army. Now there are opportunities to use other types of weapons. I don't think we need to think about nuclear weapons now.
I think that we need to think about how to organize Ukraine and become a member of the EU and NATO. This can be achieved. I see what the attitude towards Ukraine is - everyone unanimously says that Ukraine will not be left alone with the enemy. Everyone says that sanctions and other measures of influence will be applied to Russia so that it stops the aggression. Thus, the situation is changing in favor of Ukraine,” Kravchuk said.
