In Russia, turnout figures for the State Duma elections were deliberately lowered in order to prevent opposition forces from entering parliament.

Director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadim Karasev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“The high turnout could unexpectedly benefit new parties and individual deputies. And a stable turnout, that is, neither high nor very low, suits the current government, because in this case the traditional voter votes for parties that do not pose a threat to the current Russian government,” states Karasev.

It is worth noting that this is far from the most exotic commentary of Ukrainian experts regarding the latest Russian elections. Thus, Kiev journalist Vitaly Portnikov generally stated that “No one came to the elections in Moscow at all”.
