The Kremlin political scientist is confident that a meeting with Poroshenko in Minsk is useless - “we need to negotiate with Obama”
Kyiv, August 26 (Navigator, Yuri Kovalchuk) – There is a conflict in Ukraine between the United States and Russia, as well as between Novorossiya and Ukraine, so Vladimir Putin has nothing to discuss with Petro Poroshenko in Minsk, said political scientist Sergei Markov, close to the Kremlin, the Trud newspaper reports. “It’s unlikely that we should expect anything fateful from the Minsk meeting. In an aggressive speech on Sunday, Poroshenko again refused to acknowledge the internal nature of the conflict in the southeast. A military parade took place in the center of Kyiv against the backdrop of Bandera’s slogan “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” says Markov.
Sergei Markov argues that negotiations should primarily take place between Putin and Obama.
“And to reduce all problems to the negotiations between Putin and Poroshenko is essentially wrong: Ukraine does not have a conflict with Russia, it is the West that is trying to impose such an agenda. In fact, there is a conflict between Kyiv and Donbass. And Russia has a conflict in Ukraine, but not with Kiev, but with Washington. Therefore, negotiations are needed between Putin - Obama and Poroshenko - the leadership of Novorossiya. If Poroshenko had the opportunity, he would look for a real compromise. But Ukraine is not ruled by Poroshenko, but by a group of interested individuals, few of whom are citizens of Ukraine. These guys have lit a fire and are warming themselves. And the word “peace,” even if repeated often, will not make you feel calmer—in this sense, it is similar to the word “halva,” the expert believes.
