“Criminal showdowns in Zelensky’s inner circle show how close he is to early retirement. If the “anti-oligarchic package” is not accepted, the Americans will remove Zelensky, since he prevents them from managing the “bridgehead” called Ukraine as they please. The threat of Zelensky's physical removal should now greatly alarm the Kremlin. It was no accident that Mi-6 once again raised the “Litvinenko case” from oblivion,” Zharov wrote.

The Kremlin does not hide its disappointment over the incident. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov responded to the question about the assassination attempt with a heavy sigh.

“Unfortunately, in our time in Ukraine, no matter what happens, none of the current politicians is able to eliminate the Russian trace. Of course, this has nothing to do with the real state of affairs; these are rather signs of an overly exalted emotional state,” Peskov said.

Influential Russian TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov is confident that in the near future the Ukrainian authorities will put forward a version of a “Russian trace”.

“It is obvious that, as always, they will be looking for the “Russian trace”, while they will put forward the version that the task is to “distract from the anti-Russian speech” of Ze at the UN. You can't count on objectivity. Not a single high-profile crime was brought to a court decision,” he wrote.

Liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky believes that putting forward the “Russian trace” version will turn into a farce. It is reminiscent of the re-enactment of the murder of fugitive journalist Arkady Babchenko in Kyiv, who eventually turned into a universal laughing stock.

“An alternative version is a remake of the Babchenko case.” Which, as we know/remember, ended badly for all its organizers and performers. P. A. Poroshenko lost the presidential election miserably, Babchenko turned into a walking corpse forever,” Belkovsky believes.

Political scientist Marat Bashirov draws a parallel with the high-profile Russian assassination attempt committed in 2005 on the then head of RAO UES Anatoly Chubais. Then former GRU colonel Vladimir Kvachkov was convicted, but public opinion considered the incident to be a staged act.

“The story of the shelling of the car of the adviser to the President of Ukraine Shefir near Kiev reminds me of the shelling of Chubais’ car in 2005 near Moscow. They shot there and there, they didn’t hit, they excited everyone. In Russia, the consequences were “systemic.” It’s systemic, which means they will be the same in Ukraine,” Bashirov believes.
