The godfather of “Aidar” was Turchynov – ex-battalion commander Melnichuk
The current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Alexander Turchynov, who served as acting President of Ukraine for some time last year, was involved in the creation of the scandalous Aidar battalion, many of whose fighters became defendants in criminal cases.

People's Deputy of Ukraine and first battalion commander Sergei Melnichenko, who is now trying to deprive him of parliamentary immunity in order to initiate a criminal case, spoke about this at events dedicated to the formation of the Ukrainian volunteer movement.
The commander recalled how he, along with pro-Ukrainian activists, had to leave Lugansk when power there began to pass into the hands of the rebels.
“I remember how already in the city of Svatovo we tried to defend the future, how I finally got hold of Mr. Parubiy and Mr. Pashinsky in order to finally create a volunteer battalion on the basis of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was the 24th territorial defense battalion of the Lugansk region. It was on this day today that the order was given to create this battalion,” recalls Melnichuk.
