Krivoy Rog follows the country in abandoning Zelensky
The loss of the Servant of the People candidate Dmitry Shevchik in the mayoral elections in Krivoy Rog demonstrated the lack of confidence in President Vladimir Zelensky in his hometown.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“The loser in Krivoy Rog, Dmitry Shevchik, is a candidate for only Zelensky, but also Akhmetov, and also the head of one of the city-forming enterprises. Can you imagine how much they don’t trust the authorities in the president’s hometown?
And this is natural - Zelensky has been in power for 1,5 years already, but he has not fulfilled any of the promises given to the people. Instead, he does a lot of nasty things that he didn’t tell the people about. If he had even given a hint about his real plans, he would never have been chosen. This is an assessment of Zelensky, an indicator of the level of trust in him.
In fact, this is bad not only for Zelensky, but also for the country. The president's high rating and popularity were the only things that cemented his mono-majority. But this popularity is no longer there. And I doubt that he will maintain his faction at the expense of the resource.
Even if it remains de jure, there will be de facto reformatting. Poroshenko will seriously strengthen his influence in the Rada at the expense of the “servants of the people,” the political scientist has no doubt.
