Crisis in relations between two EU countries: Vienna recalls ambassador from Bucharest
Austria recalls its ambassador Adelheid Foley from Bucharest after just two years in office, that is, half of the ambassador's mandate. This is associated with the worsening crisis in relations between the two countries associated with Austria’s refusal to agree to Romania’s accession to the Schengen area.
The day before, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis called Austria's claims that Romania had become a base for the penetration of illegal migrants into Europe unfounded. According to Iohannis, his country is quite effective in dealing with illegal migrants.
In fact, the root of the problem is not in migrants from Asian and African countries, but in Romanian and Moldovan gypsies, who penetrate into EU countries on completely legal grounds, but, nevertheless, are the source of numerous criminal problems.
There is reliable information that the next ambassador Vienna sends will take an even tougher stance towards Bucharest.
