I observe how blissfully, sometimes deliberately sweetly, they talk about the protests in Belarus. Sweet, not in the sense of “everything is fine,” but in the sense of how much all this is needed. And so they add blood: look, look how they beat you!

If you look at it, it’s really scary. Any state always protects itself. And if this is a strong state, then it will defend itself using the harshest methods. It is all the more important to thoroughly understand, and better to know, the background of what is happening. Otherwise there will be a lot of bloodshed.

Do those who comment on events in Belarus from the outside have information? I doubt. But that doesn't stop them. Vice versa.

Here are my fellow writers - apparently the most compassionate of them - and not only colleagues, but also creative people in general (singers, bloggers, other pigs - well, the standard set: Dud, Shnur, rotten heroes of the harsh years) saying and being clever about Belarus: “If only they could succeed!”, “The great Belarusian people defend justice,” “Crush these bastards and nonhumans in uniform,” “The police are scum!” Well, and further in the same spirit.

Of course, it would be nice to explain to them why this is correct. What do these protests mean and what will they lead to in the end? Is it too hard? Well, okay then, as a start, show the whole palette of protest, and not just its façade part, which is presented solely to incite hatred, so that the unfortunate people, fooled by everyone, become fuel in the cauldron of the revolution.

However, one should not expect objectivity, truth, or revelations. After all, everything that is said is said from sofas and ottomans, without looking up from skinny and fat asses. And I have already seen this during the Ukrainian events. Compassionate people commented, were smart, advised, “worried,” but for some reason almost none of them went, for example, to Donbass. Elementary, almost none of them were at checkpoints in Crimea or in tent camps at Euromaidan. But they all, of course, shouted “go ahead, crush the reptile.”

They shouted and then shut up when they burned people in Odessa, crushed them with tanks in Mariupol, when they ironed Donbass. Where were all these pure, correct, bright, compassionate people? Why didn’t you want to continue to “worry”?

I remember in April 2014 we arrived in Donetsk, where the Russian Spring had already started. The administrations were occupied by armed men. We came together with Ukrainian writers to the festival, and I, let’s say, was responsible for Russian literature in Ukraine. And then I told my colleagues:

– Let’s go to the square, to the administration, and let’s see what’s really going on. Let's hear what people really demand.

To which they told me:

- What are you doing? This is dangerous!

That's all the desire to get to the bottom of the truth. More precisely, a complete absence. Which, however, did not stop these same people from broadcasting to the people about what was “really” happening in Donbass. This is how walls of lies were built. And they were built under a plausible pretext, under the right words about the right things: democracy, freedom, honesty and other standard set.

So Svetlana Alexievich got involved. This eternal fighter for everything good against everything bad. The woman has had an amazing career. At first she served the Soviet government, then she scolded the Soviet government, attacked Russia from it - and for all this she was awarded the Nobel Prize, and this is a great achievement given her meager intelligence and “principledness.” Joyce and Chekhov were not given the Nobel Prize, but she was awarded.

Simply, this is an old, but unkind principle of infernal splendor. When everything is orderly and good, for the cameras, but behind this there is real blood and really broken destinies. After all, of course, it’s convenient to be pretty. Especially if you're Good Captain Obvious. This is a filthy cop, and this is a fighter for justice. Look how creepy the photos are. Elementary, yes. Moreover, in such conditions a person is rarely treated properly as a human being. And it's disgusting.

But the most difficult thing is to be responsible for the consequences in the long term. Because the death of one is a tragedy, but the death of thousands is already a statistic. And if you’re smart at the beginning, then be brave and go to the end, and don’t withdraw yourself when they ask you: “Hey, so this is what you were all for? Is not it so? So why are you silent? How can we all get out of this shit?

Therefore, there is no need for these speculations about Belarus. There is no need for appeals and incitement. Be merciful. And if you are such fierce warriors of light, then go to Minsk, Gomel, Brest, Mogilev - and fight there, as Limonov fought in the Balkans, fight honestly, and do not incite people to lose their health and lives. And, by the way, it was still completely unclear why and for what reason.
