The agency reports that AgroGeneration is considering ways to expand grain production in Ukraine. This could be either an increase in acreage or the acquisition and merger of other companies and firms, says AgroGeneration representative Mikhail Bleyzer.
Let us recall that the head of Poroshenko’s administration, Boris Lozhkin, announced the possible start of an open market for the country’s land as early as January 1, 2016.
AgroGeneration (one of the five largest grain traders on the planet) grows wheat, sunflower and barley in Ukraine.
The company indicated that last year the economic crisis in Ukraine related to the conflict in the eastern part created opportunities for takeovers of other companies. Reducing the costs associated with the hryvnia, due to the fall in its value, will lead, according to the corporation's analysts, to lower prices for the company's products, and therefore the competitiveness of the products. That is why the corporation intends to expand acreage in the country.
Ukrainian experts talk about the danger of establishing agro-colonialism in Ukraine along the lines of Latin America or Africa if the market is open to free sales and purchases lands.
