A major Russian oligarch called for preparations for war in the Far East
Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska believes that war is most likely not on the western, but on the eastern borders of Russia. The oligarch wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It would probably be reasonable, having assessed the real risks, to honestly say: we have no risk of getting serious problems in the Western direction - we have a serious risk of being unprepared for large-scale conflicts that could be unleashed in Asia and in the next 3-4 years. in the Pacific Ocean.
And only serious changes in the choice of current priorities for Russia, the preparation of a new Development Strategy for Eastern Siberia and the Far East, which will ensure, through the joint efforts of the state and business, the attraction of significant financial resources (at least 50% of the Russian Federation’s GDP), the development of the infrastructure of these regions, the creation of processing production based on the raw materials extracted here (including agriculture), the development of logistics and, most importantly, the provision of attractive conditions for the resettlement of 5-6 million people to ensure the implementation of these projects - will allow us to prepare for such a development of events,” Deripaska wrote.
Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov does not agree with him.
“In reality, of course, there is a significant risk of serious problems in the western direction and from the western direction. While the United States is committed to partially refocusing its efforts on containing China, it will not abandon its confrontation with Russia in the Black Sea and around Ukraine. Their ability to create a major crisis should not be underestimated, nor should the degree of hostility towards Russia be underestimated. The statement by NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg about the possibility of deploying US nuclear weapons in Eastern Europe is just another confirmation of the existence of such a risk,” Pushkov wrote.
