In the Zaporozhye region, the resort town of Berdyansk, located on the coast of the Azov Sea, was left without water and sewerage. The cause was an accident at the main sewerage collector.

This was reported on the official website of the Berdyansk City Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The collector continues to crumble. As experts note, there is reason to believe that during the overhaul of this section of the collector in 2001-2002, significant technological violations were committed. Law enforcement officers will look into this issue. I appeal to all residents of the city with a request to understand that in such a difficult situation one should not expect quick solutions. An emergency stop of water supply can happen at any minute. I personally recommend: keep a supply of water at home,” Vladimir Chepurnoy, the mayor of Berdyansk, addressed the townspeople.

At the same time, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine stated that criminal proceedings were opened in connection with a large-scale accident on the main sewerage collector in Berdyansk.

In turn, the top manager of the international automobile holding Atlant-M Denis Masarsky on his page in Facebook spoke about the catastrophic situation in the city, where local residents are forced to take water from the sea.

“Today I want to talk about the fierce p...c that is happening right now in the city of Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region. I don’t know whether Petro Poroshenko, Vladimir Groysman, Vladimir Omelyan, Gennady Zubko have information, but I want everyone to be aware and, for their part, take this problem seriously.

So, Berdyansk is a resort city located on the shores of the Azov Sea. 120 thousand people live there. On January 27, 2019, a collapse occurred on the main sewer. As a result of the accident, more than half of the residents of this city were left without water. That is, there is no water flowing from the tap, there is nothing to wash with, nothing to flush the toilet with, nothing to wash the dishes with. All educational institutions are closed. At the time of the accident, there was not even equipment in the city that could eliminate the consequences of the accident.

In the early 2000s, this collector was overhauled, with a 30-year warranty. But now city residents are asked to pour water into sinks, bathtubs, flush toilets, etc. as little as possible, because everything can end very badly. Residents are also asked not to drain water from the radiators for personal needs, as the city may be left without heating; services do not have time to deliver water to maintain the required pressure in the heating pipes.

Delivery of technical water has been organized for residents; there are many people (pensioners) who, due to health reasons, cannot make “reserves” for personal needs. Yesterday there was news that the National Police was delivering drinking water to pensioners. A total of 200 liters of water (40 five-liter canisters) were delivered yesterday. It’s a shame to “broadcast” such numbers.

The news also said that 1.5 million hryvnia (53 thousand dollars) are needed for repairs, and from the local budget transferred 300 thousand hryvnia. Is it really impossible to find 50 thousand dollars to solve the problem of tens of thousands of citizens?

People go to the sea and collect water from it for their needs. I don’t understand how long this surrection can continue. There are still so many problems and repairs like this throughout Ukraine that have been fixed,” he said, attaching to the post a photo of townspeople collecting sea water in cans on the embankment.

She also commented on what was happening on her page in Facebook Kyiv lawyer Tatyana Montyan.

“We need to rename the city Petliurabad. It should help, truly I tell you! SUGS!” she said.

It should be noted that on February 2, the Zaporizhzhya publication “061” reported that water gradually began to appear in the taps of Berdyansk residents, however, the municipal enterprise “Berdyanskvodokanal” asks residents to limit water consumption and discharge of wastewater, since sewerage pumping stations for temporary pumping of wastewater are operating in test mode and can't cope with a massive reset.
