The collapse of dreams: Ukrainians began to hint at the impotence of NATO
Ukraine, in its confrontation with Russia, placed its key hopes on NATO, but in practice it turned out that the North Atlantic Alliance is often unable to protect even itself from threats of the new generation.
Ukrainian military expert Anton Shapochnikov stated this during the Second International Security Forum in Kharkov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Is NATO ready to defend Ukraine? We need to ask NATO. But first there is the question of whether NATO is ready to accept Ukraine. At the moment, of course not.
If we expand the question - is NATO ready in principle to defend its members who are faced with aggression, especially with a new type of aggression disguised in the cyber sphere, this is a very complex and alarming question.
And, in particular, the definition of what a quasi-state is - an infection and vulgarity that must be fought, reacted to, feared, studied, and strangled as soon as the opportunity arises. Or everything is not so simple, these are really people's republics, and deal with them yourself - this is their internal matter.
Because in our time, the speed of response is critical, as it was in Crimea - the Russians needed only a few hours to launch the operation,” the Ukrainian expert shared his sore point.
