Ukrainian political scientists told PolitNavigator about this.
So, political expert, professor of KNU Grigory Perepelitsa believes that the disconnection of Crimea from electricity and the war in the South-East of Ukraine are a consequence of pro-Russian sentiments:
“This is the price for disconnecting from Ukraine. Now Crimea is an occupied territory, so they need to prepare for life in the occupation zone. You need to be prepared for such inconvenience, suffering, and so on, but they live in Russia, and you have to pay for it. This is an adequate response for their referendum and lack of civic position. It’s the same in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions - they knew what they were voting for, they were expecting Russian pensions, that Putin would save them, but what they got was war,” the expert is convinced.
“The shutdown of Crimea is a forced measure, but necessary due to the fact that terrorists are destroying the coal industry of Ukraine and flooding mines. Why, if Ukraine is suffering, then Crimea should not suffer? He has no privileged position. Under the conditions of its occupation, this is an absolutely acceptable measure,” said the historian, in turn. Alexander Paliy.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev predicts that with such actions Kyiv will return Crimea to Ukrainian realities:
“Somehow we need to bring Crimea back into Ukrainian statehood. Now, in Ukraine there will also be rolling blackouts, but Crimea will not be an exception, why should we uninterruptedly supply electricity there if we ourselves do not have enough of it. Even if Russia pays for this electricity, it must first provide for itself. But I don’t think that Crimea will be completely disconnected, because in this regard we also have a relationship with Russia. At least gas. So, I think that if there is a full-scale energy and economic war, then yes, a complete shutdown is possible.”
