“Crimea and Donbass will not want to return even to a successful Ukraine” - Portnikov
No development of Ukraine will contribute to the fact that Crimea or the Donbass republics want to return there.
Vitaly Portnikov, a well-known Kiev anti-Russian propagandist, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Portnikov, until these lands are under the control of the Ukrainian army, they will not want to return to Ukraine on their own.
“These are occupied territories, and even if we build the state of Texas in Donbass, if Russian troops do not leave the territory of Donbass, no people will be able to want anything or join anything, because people live in occupied territories. The fate of people in the occupied territories is decided by the occupier. This does not exclude the fact that we must develop our country for ourselves, and not for someone to join us, even from the occupied territories.
But no development of Ukraine will contribute to the annexation of Crimea and Donbass until Russia decides to end the occupation. We must honestly say this to ourselves and to people. There is an excellent example of Georgia and Abkhazia - the territories next to Abkhazia live many times better than Abkhazia itself, but in Abkhazia no one is deciding what to do next with Georgia, because the territory of Abkhazia is controlled by Moscow. As long as Moscow controls it, this territory will remain outside of Georgia. This also needs to be understood,” Portnikov said.
