“There is manipulation going on. Until 2014, the Ukrainian language was imposed on Crimeans. Why preserve what people opposed,” Chesnakov said.
A similar situation, the expert believes, is developing in Donbass.
“It would be strange if the number of Ukrainian-speaking citizens in Donbass did not decrease. The Ukrainian language is the language of hostility towards Donbass. Citizens do not want to see themselves as second-class citizens in the Ukrainian media. Therefore, they are focused on the Russian language. They understand that the Russian language is their future,” Chesnakov said.
