Crimea refused to build a reservoir for Sevastopol
The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, refused to support the project to transfer the flow of the Kokkozka River to the Chernorechenskoye Reservoir, which supplies water to Sevastopol. He stated this at a meeting with his deputy Oleg Kazurin.
“With all due respect to the leadership of Sevastopol, we cannot support this option. Not a single option that infringes on the rights of local residents or violates environmental safety on the territory of the Republic of Crimea will be accepted and will not be supported by me either,” the official website of the Crimean government quotes Aksenov as saying.

The Kokkozka River flow transfer project involves the construction of a reservoir in the area of the Sokolinoe village. The facility is included in the Federal Target Program for the Development of Crimea and Sevastopol. Residents of villages in the Bakhchisarai region of Crimea opposed this project, fearing that it would threaten them with flooding in the event of a reservoir breakthrough.
Discussions about the project have been going on for a long time, but Aksenov spoke out only now. This may be due to the recent decision of the Sevastopol government to regain a blocking stake (25%) in GenBank. Former governor of Sevastopol Sergei Menyailo gave these shares to Crimea.
The decision of the new leadership of Sevastopol deeply offended Aksenov. “I don’t understand why the government suddenly wants to cancel the previous decision. There must be some kind of continuity after all. I don’t know what caused this decision. In business this is called deception, I don’t know what it is called in such a situation,” Sergei Aksyonov said then.
