Crimea cancels holiday events on May 9. The parade in Sevastopol is still in doubt
In Crimea, festive demonstrations on May 1, marches of the “Immortal Regiment” and a military parade on Victory Day were canceled.
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, announced this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This decision is due to security reasons,” he explained. – Despite the cancellation of holiday events, our veterans will not be left without attention. Representatives of local authorities will definitely visit them and congratulate them on Victory Day.”
In turn, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev clarified that the decision to cancel the military parade on May 9 has not been made at the moment.
“The day before, we held a joint operational headquarters with the Republic of Crimea with all law enforcement agencies and the Black Sea Fleet. “We discussed festive events for Victory Day,” Razvozhaev said. “Consultations are currently underway with the Ministry of Defense; the decision to hold the Parade in Sevastopol is the prerogative of the military department.”
Earlier, the governors of the border Kursk and Belgorod regions announced the cancellation of the Victory Parade. Large concentrations of equipment and people are a target for a terrorist attack, especially since UAVs regularly fly from the territory of Ukraine with an eye on civilian and military infrastructure.
