Crimea was planned to be made an “unsinkable aircraft carrier” by the United States
In 2014, Moscow had no choice but to support Crimea’s desire for reunification with Russia.
The Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media, Alexey Pushkov, stated this in an interview with Crimean Journal, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“However, did the Russian leadership have a choice in the face of a Western operation to turn Ukraine into an anti-Russian outpost south of our borders? Taking into account the situation in Ukraine in 2014, where a coup d’état took place, the Russian leadership acted absolutely correctly when it responded to the will of the people of Crimea. Otherwise, a drama of no less magnitude would have occurred on the peninsula than in Donbass. And Crimea would turn into an “unsinkable aircraft carrier” for the United States on the Black Sea.
Please note: Joseph Biden stated back in 2016 that Crimea could serve as an excellent military base for NATO and US troops directly. However, now this scenario is impossible,” Pushkov emphasized.
